The Queen is making a donation to the Lynn News Special Care Baby Appeal, which was launched at the end of May.
Lynn News – Norfolk’s twice-weekly paper for the borough of King’s Lynn – is running an appeal to raise £150,000 for the King’s Lynn’s Queen Hospital unit for premature and sick babies. So far £5,000 has been raised with further donations pledged, and reporter Louise Brain is coordinating future events and publicity.
The Queen’s country home at Sandringham is only a few miles from the hospital. Editor Malcolm Powell said: ‘Her Majesty’s support will certainly help to give our latest appeal added impetus.”
Raising the money will allow the unit to increase its number of specialist cots from 12 to 14, get the latest in security and CCTV, provide a second overnight room for parents and a quiet area for nurses to prepare medication.
The Lynn News has a history of fundraising. In recent years has helped raise more than £125,000 to buy a new lifeboat at Hunstanton and nearly £70,000 for a purpose-built helipad at the hospital for use by the air ambulance.
